On 9 October 2007, Christian von Wernich, a Roman Catholic priest and former police chaplain during Argentina’s military dictatorship (1976–1983), was sentenced to life imprisonment by a court in La Plata, 80 km from Buenos Aires, for his role in seven murders, 31 cases of torture, and 42 kidnappings.
