Since mid-June 1972, it has been raining day after day. On June 18, at nearly 9:00 p.m., the garage and retaining wall of the two-storey villa at No. 21 Po Shan Road on Hong Kong Island collapsed. A large amount of mud and rocks poured down Conduit Road and knocked down the six-storey building at No. 51. It fell and impacted the building at 38-40 Kotewall Road. The 12-storey building of 24 luxury flats toppled over, shearing the top four floors of the newly built but unoccupied 14-storey building in front of it, resulting in 67 deaths.
