At 8:30 p.m. on November 11, 1972, police detective Wong Kam-shing of the Yau Ma Tei Police Station patrolled the Kwun Chung street market and found two suspicious-looking men in the back lane of No. 30 Shanghai Street. While attempting to approach and search them, the men suddenly grabbed bowls and plates from the nearby restaurant and threw them at him. Wong fired a warning shot but was ignored. The men tried to escape. Wong fired two more shots, one hitting one in the shoulder. The injured man, Ng Pun-hai, 34, continued to run away but fell in front of Canton Pharmacy at No. 30 Jordan Road and was arrested by the officer while the other fled.

1972年11月11日 晚上八時半， 隸屬油麻地警署的警探黃金城在官涌街市巡邏，在上海街30號的後巷發現兩名形跡可疑男子，即上前截查，豈料兩名疑人竟随手拾起飯店存放於後行的碗碟擲擊探員，探員多次喝止他們不果，明槍一響示警，兩名男子卻拔足逃跑，探員再開兩槍，一槍擊中其中一人肩膊。受傷男子是34歲的雖吳潘海，繼續逃跑，但在佐敦道 30號鳳城藥行前不支倒地， 終被黃金城拘捕，另外一人則逃去無踪。
