The ski area in Nagano Prefecture is only ten minutes by car from Tsunan. Ms. Nisizawa often went there with friends, and the girl who was sledding in the photo is the granddaughter of one of these friends. The girl on the right had come back to Sakae Village with her parents to visit her grandparents. She had been skiing in the morning and was now ready to take a break in the nearby canteen. During her visit to her hometown, the best discovery she had made was the Tomoe Yamaji Picture Emblem Exhibition. She admired Ms. Yamashida’s style of drawing and was thinking of making some drawings herself.

長野県のさかえ倶楽部スキー場は、津南から車で 10 分ほどの場所にある。西澤さ んは友人とよくそこを訪れた。写真の中でそりで遊んでいる少女は、西澤さんの友 人の孫である。右側にいる少女は、祖父母に顔を見せるため、両親と一緒に栄村を 訪れていた。この日の朝スキーをしていた少女は、そろそろ近くの食堂で休憩を取 ろうと思っていた。故郷にいる間に彼女が一番強い印象を受けたのは、山路智恵の 絵手紙の展覧会だった。彼女は山路智恵の絵のタッチにうっとりして、あんな風な 絵を自分でも描いてみたいと思ったのだった。
