Monuments for Solitude II

Vintage outdoor phone booth, petrified wood, stainless steel stand, 49 x 60 x 187cm, 2020

A new version of Monuments for Solitude, this installation is part of site-specific project Home and Nonhome commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council for the Jockey Club New Arts Power festival 2020.

"Currently, as smartphones have become the norm, these public phone booths have become redundant. They are lonely relics of yesterday’s technology. The booths are now equipped each with a piece of petrified wood. As a fossil by nature, this mixture of wood and stone representing a de facto witness of time, replacing that generic object of communication with a mute, solemn subject for one to contemplate and to reconnect with themselves.""
